If you want to try Gloomhaven’s campaign, but don’t have the game or group to play with, this is for you. Everything looks great and once you are familiar finding your way around the interface is easy. Gloomhaven, the new cooperative, campaign-driven dungeon crawl board game from designer Isaac Childres, is big. The attention to detail in the transformation makes it feel like a labor of love. You can tell the developers are both familiar and fond of tabletop Gloomhaven. And though it lacks the tactical feeling of the analog version, set up and clean up are non-existent and all the math is handled with ease and without error.

Nevertheless, when we give it a chance, we find ourselves in front of a generous, fine and rather exhilarating RPG. Complex, and difficult, the game will require a real investment to enjoy it perfectly. More sophisticated tabletop games have managed to capture a surprisingly mainstream audience. Gloomhaven is clearly not a title to put in everyone's hands.
